The death of James Van Der Beek at the age of 48 has sparked an outpouring of condolences from his family, friends, and fans following the announcement on Wednesday.
The Dawson's Creek star passed away after revealing in November 2014 that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly, and their six children. Kimberly wrote in a tribute on Instagram: "Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning. He faced his final days with courage, faith, and acceptance.
There is so much to say about his will, his love for humanity, and his belief in the sanctity of time. Those days will come. For now, we ask for your privacy during this difficult time as we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend."
Several celebrities, including Jennifer Garner and Lin-Manuel Miranda, offered their condolences to Van der Beek, as did his Dawson's Creek co-star Busy Phillips, who described him as "one of a kind."
Phillips wrote, "My heart aches for all of us today... everyone who knew and loved James, everyone who loved his work or had the privilege of meeting him, and all his dear friends and the community that surrounded him during his battle with this illness."
