Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League with a confident performance against Brighton at the Amex Stadium. The Gunners won 3-0 away from home and became only the second team this season to defeat the Seagulls in their own backyard.

A tense first half saw Mikel Arteta's men dominate possession and could have scored early if Gabriel's header was on target. Instead, they had to wait until the 33rd minute when Gabriel Jesus was taken out in the penalty area and Bukayo Saka scored the resulting penalty.

The two teams went into the break on equal terms but Arsenal continued where they left off. Jorginho found space on the right flank and crossed the ball into the penalty area. Kai Havertz once again proved he can lead the line, scoring from close range.

It was also Havertz who contributed to the third goal, firing former Brighton star Leandro Trossard into space late in the game. Trossard beat the goalkeeper and made sure there were no surprises at the end of the game.

Gabriel and the spirit that is fuelling Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge

Nothing is nothing for Arsenal: it has a resonance of its own. But if the chants chanted by Arsenal away to Brighton were a throwback to the 1990s, Mikel Arteta has now built a defense to match the days of Dixon, Bold, Adams and Winterburn. As the Gunners return to the top of the Premier League table, they have done so while keeping five clean sheets away from home for the first time since 1997.

You can see why, as Gabriel Magalhaes threw himself in to block Joao Pedro's shot in stoppage time. Arsenal were 3-0 up, but Gabriel celebrated as if he had beaten Arsenal to the game.

Arsenal have kept five consecutive clean sheets away from home in the Premier League for the first time since April 1997 (five), while they are the first team to do so in the competition since Manchester City in April 2022 (also five).

Full-time! Brighton 0-3 Arsenal

Minute 90+5: Final whistle and Arsenal are at the top of the standings again. They easily beat Brighton 3-0 thanks to a brilliant display from Kai Havertz and others.

Saka, Havertz and Trossard scored as well as another clean sheet for David Raya. Manchester City won today, and so did Arsenal.

90 minutes: Five minutes extra time to play at the Amex Stadium.

86 minutes: The match is over!

Leandro Trossard wins the ball as Brighton get men on the pitch. He pumped it on to Kai Havertz who launched the former Brighton man into space.

Trossard sprinted down the field and then slotted the ball over Bart Verbruggen to secure the points for Arsenal.

Minute 83: Pascal Gross fails to beat the first defender when he shoots a corner ball. In the last ten minutes or so, Brighton were the aggressor but Arsenal kept them completely at bay.

They barely created a goal chance.

Minute 80: Saliba is booked for a free kick, giving Brighton a free kick inside the Gunners' half. It's a good chance to pass the ball into the box but the visitors deal with the danger without too much trouble.

Minute 77: Ansu Fati replaces Danny Welbeck in Brighton. He will want to impress with the remaining time in this game as Brighton begin to build a touch of momentum.

Minute 74: Arsenal moves away from Brighton and dominates the ball. This means that more of their players are available to help in defence.

David Raya fired a long ball towards Kai Havertz but Carlos Paleba cleared it and received a yellow card.

71st minute: Lewis Dunk's cross goes straight into the hands of David Raya. It's good pressure from Brighton who press high and try to get the ball into the box.

There will still be a few nervous Arsenal fans watching the game.

68 minutes: Brighton's faith did not leave them. They throw objects forward and look to enter the box from the middle. Arsenal are sticking with consistent players who maintain their fitness and drop back to defend.

65 minutes: With this goal, there are changes in individuals. Jakob Moder and Giulio Enciso join Roberto De Zerbe and are replaced by Facundo Buonanotti and Joao Pedro.

Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli instead of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.

GOAL! Brighton 0-2 Arsenal (Havertz, 62’)⚽️

Minute 62: Arsenal gets it!

Bukayo Saka goes to the ground but Arsenal continues playing. Jorginho drifts wide and receives the pass from Martin Odegaard. He rushes into the penalty area and pulls the ball to Kai Havertz, who easily turns it over to him.

The next goal could be decisive.

Minute 57: Enciso was obstructed by Jorginho inside the Arsenal half. The free kick was taken by Gross who sent it wide for Enciso.

He weaves into the box and takes on Bukayo Saka who eventually sticks his leg out and turns the ball back for a corner kick.

Kai Havertz ran into the empty space on the right side of the field and brought the ball into the penalty area. He passes the ball to Martin Odegaard, who shoots the ball with his right foot.

It was a good shot and Bart Verbruggen could only hit it over the bar.

Minute 51: Arsenal tries to play from the back, but strong pressure from Jakub Moder leads to Gabriel's attempt at a long ball being blocked.

The ball is then deflected out to be thrown and Arsenal tries again.

48th minute: Declan Rice takes an early corner kick into the box and finds Gabriel on the far side of the box. The Arsenal man leaps into the air and heads the ball to Tariq Lamptey.

It hit the defender's arm but he did not have time to move and the referee signaled for play to continue.

Brighton regains the ball again in the second half at the Amex Stadium.

Neither group was clinical in the final third. Arsenal's nine chances saw just two goals while Brighton only managed to trouble David Raya once in six attempts.

Things have to improve if we want to score more goals in this match.

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka has scored 14 goals in 29 Premier League games this season, equaling his most in a single season in the competition in nine fewer games (14 in 38 games in 2022-23).

Minute 45+7: Only one goal separates the two teams before the end of the first half. Bukayo Saka's calm penalty was the difference, although Mikel Arteta will be hoping his side can extend that lead in the second half.

Brighton were decent and their goal will change the complexion of the game.

45+3 minutes: Louis Dunk and Bart Verbruggen both hesitate to tackle a long throw into the box allowing Kai Havertz to get a boot on the ball but he pushes his effort wide of the goal.

Minute 45: Seven minutes of stoppage time to play at the end of the first half. There have been some VAR checks and injuries make up that number.

Minute 42: Julio Enciso receives the ball from the edge of the penalty area, cuts it and passes it with his right foot. He fired a shot on target and forced a diving save from David Raya that cleared the ball for a corner kick.

39 min: Ben White sprints down the wing to catch a ball that was heading out of play. He only had time to cross with the first touch, but it almost reached Kai Havertz inside the penalty area.

Jean-Paul van Hecke was conscious enough to press the striker and turn the ball back for a corner kick which then came to nothing for Arsenal.

Minute 36: This goal will decide the game for Arsenal in a big way. Every time they go forward, Arsenal tends to relax and play fluid, confident football.

Brighton takes a free kick shot by Pascal Gross inside the penalty area. Gabriel wins the initial ball and Saka completes the clearance with a shot into the stands.

GOAL! Brighton 0-1 Arsenal (Saka, 33’)⚽️

He is calm and passes the ball into the bottom left corner while Bart Verbruggen jumps in the opposite direction. The Gunners are moving forward now!

VAR is following up on the incident...

Simon Adingra shot the ball clear and was then caught by Jorginho to win Brighton a free-kick.

Minute 27: Tariq Lamptey rushes into the penalty area and chases down a rebound. David Raya drops low to try to grab the ball and Lamptey collides with him before going down.

He sends a cross towards Danny Welbeck but the ball is too close for David Raya who picks it up without too much trouble.

Saka swings into another corner and finds Gabriel. His shot went wide of the goal under pressure from Pascal Gross and the Arsenal defender wanted a penalty kick.

He doesn't get one.

18th minute: Simon Adingra shot a powerful shot from the right side of the field, but it did not bother David Raya, who shot it wide of the far post.

Minute 15: Saka takes a corner kick for Arsenal after Jorginho blocked a powerful shot from Bart Verbruggen. The ball was easily cleared by Brighton but the Gunners were starting to increase their intensity now.

Minute 12: Arsenal are not settled yet. There were some wrong passes and the pace was slow.
