“From the beginning, our goal was to find a dynamic head coach who could return the women's basketball program to national prominence. Kim Caldwell is the perfect person to lead us,” White said. “Kim has a winning formula that she has successfully applied everywhere she has coached, through... Fast attack, high pressing and defense that led to great results. In this new era of college sports, it was imperative that we find an innovative head coach with a proven track record of winning titles. We are eager to get the Lady Vols back to championship level, and we are confident that Kim Caldwell is the coach who can get us back to the top.

Caldwell will leave her previous job as head coach of the Marshall Thundering Herd to make her way to Rocky Top.

“I am honored and humbled to accept the position of head coach of this historic program at the University of Tennessee,” Caldwell said. "I can't help but think about accepting the Pat Summitt Trophy three seasons ago, and I'm overwhelmed by the great responsibility and opportunity to now lead and build on the amazing Lady Vol tradition she has built. I'm very excited to get to work and can't wait to see what we can all accomplish together."

In her only year at Marshall, Caldwell led the Thundering Herd to a 26-7 record and won the regular season and Sun Belt Conference Tournament to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Marshall entered the Sun Belt tournament with a 17-1 record in conference play, the first time the program had qualified for the tournament in its 27-year history.

The Thundering Herd fell to No. 4 Virginia Tech in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament 92-49.

Prior to her freshman year at Marshall, Caldwell coached for seven years at Glenville State at the Division II level, where she was formerly known as Kim Stevens. While with the Pioneers, she compiled a coaching record of 191-24 (132-12 in MEC), winning the national championship in 2022 and making a Final Four appearance the following year. The last team she coached led NCAA D-II in points per game (91.2) and turnovers forced (27.3).

Prior to her time at GSU, Caldwell was an assistant at Sacramento State from 2013 through 2016, serving three seasons under Bunke Harkleroad.

Caldwell is a native of Parkersburg, West Virginia where she helped lead GSU to a West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and an NCAA D-II tournament berth in 2010-11.

Caldwell becomes the Lady Vols' fourth head coach since the legendary Pat Summitt took the helm.
